內容簡介 Call For Papers
The European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS) will hold its fifth annual conference on 18-20 April 2008. The conference is co-organized by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. The Chiang Ching-kuo International Sinological Centre, and the Institute of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University.

Venue: Prague.

The organizers particularly welcome abstracts on the following themes:
1.Domestic Politics and Democracy (including one panel on Legislative and Presidential Campaigns)
2.Trade, Finance and Economics
3.Cosmology, Environment, and Ecology
4.Taiwanese Languages, Literatures and Histories
5.Sports and Chinese Taipei in the Olympics

We particularly invite submissions on one key theme “Constructing a Civic Society” for the consideration of an interdisciplinary panel.

Masters and 1st year Ph.D. students carrying out research projects on Taiwan at a European university are especially encouraged to apply and their research areas will receive immediate attention by the organisers.

In addition, we will consider submissions in the following disciplinary areas:
1.Economics and Business
2.Anthropology and Religion
3.Politics, Law and International Relations
4.History and Geography
5.Cultural and Area Studies

We will announce the accepted abstracts on 14 December 2007.

Participants who present papers and affiliated with European institutions will be eligible for travel grants. Details will be announced.
